Today marks the 7th anniversary of this blog . . . my how time flies!
As a little change of pace, I thought I’d post a few photos taken during some steam excursions that I was fortunate to participate in.
In the early 1970s the Southern Railway ran a series of steam powered excursion trains throughout its system. Steam locomotive No. 722, of a 2-8-0 wheel arrangement, is shown here heading for New Orleans from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Mr. Walter Dove, a long time employee of the Southern, is at the throttle.
The Southern had “colorful” engines. Is “Photos I Like, Ralifanning” by “Jack Shall” a book or a group of your photos?

Syd, these are simply a group of photos that I’ve taken over the years. The “Photos I Like” and “Railfanning” terms are categories that I’ve placed these photos in to aid folks doing a search.

Jack, Since the Bayou Crest Express R.R. has exchange on my layout. I often run engines of the Southern on my layout.
Really did like the Southern for many things they came up with to get the Job done. Like the “BIG JOHN” Hoopers.
