Proof of Progress!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier in the week I finished installing the sub-roadbed (plywood topped with Homasote) in the town of Oneida.\u00a0 This town is located on the 2nd peninsula, which happens to be the 5th and final major area of benchwork.\u00a0 Today I sanded and filled joints between panels and did general cleanup in the area.\u00a0 Tomorrow I&#8217;ll likely get a coat of paint down to seal things.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been promising for weeks (months?) to get some pictures posted of the work that&#8217;s been done in both Whitcomb and in Oneida.\u00a0 Well I&#8217;ve <em>finally<\/em> done it!\u00a0 Here are a few to start things off:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Benchwork-Whitcomb_01.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-793\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-793 size-full\" view looking down most of the length of the room.\u00a0 That&#8217;s the Spencer Lumber Company&#8217;s Camp 6 on the right, along with the double switchback required to get up the hill.\u00a0 To the left of that is the Louisiana Central mainline.\u00a0 Way down at the far end is Whitcomb.\u00a0 Over on the peninsula at left we see Oneida.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Benchwork-Whitcomb_03.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-792\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full of Whitcomb.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve started the trackwork in this area and the mainline (left) is complete and wired.\u00a0 The passing siding (center track) and the industrial spur (right) aren&#8217;t installed yet . . . the pieces are being cut and fitted, and they should be going down soon.\u00a0 The next track to the right (on it&#8217;s own supports) is the Spencer mainline from the woods.\u00a0 It&#8217;s heading back to the mill at Oneida.\u00a0 And the high line against the wall is the tail of the 2nd switchback on the track up to Camp 6.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Benchwork-Whitcomb_08.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-794\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-794\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Benchwork-Whitcomb_08.jpg\" alt=\"The alcove\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Benchwork-Whitcomb_08-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDown in the alcove, both the Louisiana Central and the Spencer mainlines make a 180 degree curve, then head back to Oneida on the peninsula.\u00a0 The gap in the roadbed at right is where the plate girder bridge will go.\u00a0 The Spencer mainline passes below the bridge here.\u00a0 The two mainlines join at left for a bit of joint trackage over the river bridge to be located just east of Oneida.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll get a pic or two taken at Oneida in a few days after I finish up the painting and cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like to see more photos, you\u2019re invited to visit the
