{"id":349,"date":"2014-05-05T11:51:48","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T16:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/?p=349"},"modified":"2015-03-15T15:57:08","modified_gmt":"2015-03-15T20:57:08","slug":"a-visit-to-the-narrow-gauge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/2014\/05\/05\/a-visit-to-the-narrow-gauge\/","title":{"rendered":"A Visit to the Narrow Gauge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past weekend Wayne Robichaux and I paid a visit to a friend, Bob McNeese, to pick up some Homasote left-overs that he had from his nearly finished layout.\u00a0 While there, Bob gave us a tour of his pike and I must say, it is something to behold.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s in Sn3 scale and is generally based on the former Rio Grande&#8217;s narrow gauge operation in the New Mexico\/Colorado area.\u00a0 The layout has a couple small yards, and silver mines abound.\u00a0 The structures are superb, the layout&#8217;s level of detail is quite high and the scenery is spectacular.\u00a0 There was simply no way to take it all in with just one visit and I&#8217;ve already told Bob that I need to visit again to continue my observation.<\/p>\n<p>The proponents of S scale often tout the fact that it is the &#8220;ideal&#8221; scale, and I have to agree.\u00a0 I love the size with respect to actually being able to see the finest details, yet still small enough to get a decent sized layout in a modest space.\u00a0 If I didn&#8217;t have 50 years worth of HO collected and was just getting started, I&#8217;d have to give S scale some serious consideration.<\/p>\n<p>On the Louisiana Central, a modest amount of work has been accomplished since my last post.\u00a0 The framing around the lift-up access hatch is done and the drawer slides are installed.\u00a0 I need a couple more hours to complete the framing required on the hatch section itself to connect it to the drawer slides.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve completed the short run of sub-roadbed needed to tie the Texas and Pacific trackage from staging, into the main sub-roadbed at Monterey.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve extended the T&amp;P track from staging onto the visible portion of the layout, just shy of the yard.<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;ve advanced the track into Maynard a bit.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been preparing the two switches that will be required there, and should have those installed shortly.\u00a0 Further progression of the mainline will be a bit down the road.\u00a0 I want to start work on the Spencer Lumber Company&#8217;s trackage into the woods and the reload point before putting in the LC trackage.\u00a0 This is because the LC track will be in the foreground and I prefer working from the wall out toward the aisle.\u00a0 Hence, the logging line needs to be first up.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>-Jack<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This past weekend Wayne Robichaux and I paid a visit to a friend, Bob McNeese, to pick up some Homasote left-overs that he had from his nearly finished layout.\u00a0 While there, Bob gave us a tour of his pike and &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/2014\/05\/05\/a-visit-to-the-narrow-gauge\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15,12,8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-349","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-layout-visits","category-misc-layout-constr","category-roadbed-track"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/349","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=349"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/349\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":352,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/349\/revisions\/352"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=349"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=349"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=349"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
