{"id":250,"date":"2013-09-09T09:51:09","date_gmt":"2013-09-09T14:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/?p=250"},"modified":"2015-03-15T16:14:10","modified_gmt":"2015-03-15T21:14:10","slug":"second-times-the-charm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/2013\/09\/09\/second-times-the-charm\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Time&#8217;s the Charm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are regularly following this blog, you&#8217;ll recall the comedy of errors I committed while installing the wiring for the optical detectors a few weeks ago.\u00a0 I mentioned in that post that I&#8217;d decided to rip everything out and start over.<\/p>\n<p>This past weekend I did finish ripping out the old work and I completed the new and improved wiring installation for the phototransistors in the west staging area.\u00a0 The results were much better than my original efforts.\u00a0 Armed with the success, I will now repeat the lessons learned over at the east staging area (which is twice the size).<\/p>\n<p>I also have to put in the illumination for all those PT&#8217;s.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be using infrared (IR) LEDs attached to overhead supports, one over each PT.\u00a0 I have no specs for the IR LEDs that I have, so I&#8217;m going to have to assume their characteristics in order to select the current limiting resistors that will be required.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never worked with IR stuff before, but I&#8217;m told that if you look at an IR LED that is turned on through a digital camera, that you can see the light.\u00a0 I hope that is so, as I think aiming and adjusting will be much more difficult if I can&#8217;t even see what I&#8217;m trying to do.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of other things have occurred over the last couple weeks, though mostly things that don&#8217;t really show any progress.\u00a0 I finished installing all the cable hangers for the main cable runs throughout all of the benchwork (a significant task itself).\u00a0 I finalized what control panels will be required and their locations.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve even started some preliminary drawings for panel layouts.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve coordinated where other things will be on or under the layout&#8217;s fascia once it&#8217;s installed, particularly the work shelves and throttle plug-ins.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got the Willis yard ready for track installation now.\u00a0 I keep a marker board filled with a running list of tasks that need to be done, and I manage to erase a couple each weekend.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll likely be doing wiring for at least several more weeks before moving back to the roadbed and track.\u00a0 But I figure it&#8217;s good to try keeping the electrical and roadbed\/track current with each other.<\/p>\n<p>Most of you that are subscribers to this blog are relatively local, so if you&#8217;d like to visit to see things for yourself, you&#8217;d be more than welcome.\u00a0 Just drop me a line, and we&#8217;ll make it happen.<\/p>\n<p><em>-Jack<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are regularly following this blog, you&#8217;ll recall the comedy of errors I committed while installing the wiring for the optical detectors a few weeks ago.\u00a0 I mentioned in that post that I&#8217;d decided to rip everything out and &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/2013\/09\/09\/second-times-the-charm\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-250","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-electrical-dcc"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/250","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=250"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/250\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":252,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/250\/revisions\/252"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=250"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=250"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=250"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
