{"id":1208,"date":"2018-07-15T10:09:06","date_gmt":"2018-07-15T15:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/?p=1208"},"modified":"2019-01-30T17:39:30","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T23:39:30","slug":"the-6th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/2018\/07\/15\/the-6th-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"The 6th Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today marks the 6th anniversary of the start of construction of the Louisiana Central Railroad.\u00a0 As many of you know, the railroad suffered a horrific flood in August of 2016.\u00a0 I posted about it here in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/2016\/08\/27\/flood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flood!<\/a> and had a short follow up in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/2016\/11\/20\/the-aftermath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wplink-edit=\"true\">The Aftermath<\/a> for new readers that may be unaware.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately little progress has been made with the restoration of the train room (which is actually a separate building from my home).\u00a0 After the immediate remediation of the building, it became a warehouse of sorts for things from the house, as well as a place to stage materials needed for reconstruction.<\/p>\n<p>My home restoration is essentially complete, with only minor details needing attention.\u00a0 Indeed, I&#8217;ve been back living here since last Thanksgiving.\u00a0 But moving back into the house didn&#8217;t mean it was complete, and it has taken much time to finish the restoration.\u00a0 Add to that time taken to &#8220;catch up&#8221; on things that were left undone for over a year!<\/p>\n<p>However, I&#8217;ve started making a wee bit of progress.\u00a0 The first step to the train building restoration is to simply empty it out, leaving only the layout structure itself in the building.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got virtually all of the household stuff out, and I&#8217;ve started the process of packing the train room and shop equipment.\u00a0 But then the realization hit that I needed more space in my house (mainly the garage) to store the stuff from the train building.\u00a0 Ugh!\u00a0 So I&#8217;ve added more shelving in the garage, and am trying to get it cleared and organized so as to make the necessary space.<\/p>\n<p>But to be honest, the biggest hold up on getting this all done is simply burn out.\u00a0 Next month will see the second anniversary of that flood, and I&#8217;m just sick and tired of dealing with the aftermath.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not alone in that feeling, as I&#8217;ve got <em>many<\/em> people around me in that same boat.\u00a0 I would never have dreamed I&#8217;d still be dealing with flood related issues two years after the fact!<\/p>\n<p>But it will happen.\u00a0 The Louisiana Central is not forgotten or abandoned.\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping the next anniversary will be one of joy and cheer.\u00a0 Wish me luck!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/biggrin.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-70\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lacentralrr.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/biggrin.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>-Jack<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today marks the 6th anniversary of the start of construction of the Louisiana Central Railroad.\u00a0 As many of you know, the railroad suffered a horrific flood in August of 2016.\u00a0 I posted about it here in Flood!
